Unveiling Treasures Of Africa


Perched on the Sudanese border in the northeast of Uganda, almost 700km from Kampala tucked between the borders of Uganda, Kenya and Sudan covering over an area of 1,442 sq km, Kidepo Valley National Park is one of Uganda’s most spectacular and most magnificent parks described as open tree Savannah that varies much in structure and composition.

Kidepo offers breathtaking Savannah landscapes with rugged in horizons. A huge latitudinal range and correspondingly wide climatic conditions have evolved an extremely diverse flora. As a result the variety of animal species in the park is equally abundant including many which are found nowhere else in Uganda.

Tourist Attractions in Kidepo
Kidepo National Park is the leading virgin parks with scenery unsurpassed in any other park of East and Central Africa as well as great numbers of fauna and flora species.

Kidepo holds unique animal species including the bat-eared fox, striped hyena, aardwolf, caracal, cheetah and hunting dog. Less common ungulates include the greater and lesser kudu, Chandlers Mountain reedbuck, klipspringer, and bright gazelle; beisa oryx and roan antelope have been severely depleted by poachers in the recent years. Among other large ungulates are elephant, burchell’s zebra, bush pig, warthog, Rothschild giraffe, cape buffalo, eland, bush buck, bush duskier, defassa water buck, bohor reed buck, Jackson’s hartebeest. Other five species of primate are found in the park of which the Kavirondo bush baby is endemic. Carnivores present include lion, leopard, several small cats, spotted hyena, black-backed jackal and side-striped jackal. The easiest to see being the jackals.

The Local community surrounding the park serves to be a great attraction, they include the Ike, and the Karamojong as they provide a life time experience when visited

Wildlife Game Viewing

The park boasts an extensive avifauna. 465 species have been recorded 28 were not known to occur in any other Ugandan park. There are high chances of viewing tree climbing lions that always sits on sauces trees along Narus valley or on rock just as you enter the Apoka Park Headquarter. Other wildlife include elephants, leopard, bush duiker, jackal, bush buck, bush pig, kavirondo bush baby, buffalo and much more that are sometimes seen right close to  Apoka Rest Camp.

Cultural Tours, these are very interesting and very informative, visiting the Ike and Karamojong is much reward in exploring their life style and sharing stories of their lifestyles

Kidepo only runs Apoka Safari Lodge (High end lodging) and Ngamuru Wilderness, Apoka hostels (budget lodging) as the only options for visitors to choose from for meals and overnight stay

Accessing Kidepo
By road Kidepo is distanced from the great capital Kampala, Following the Soroti-Moroto road will be enthralled by the view of the steep volcano of Alekilek about midway Moroto and Soroti. And for those who take the Lira-Kotido road will enjoy the scenery of the Labwor hills and in particular the massive and bare Alerek (Kidi Rwot) rock about 55 km to Kotido.4WD safari vehicles are recommended travelling when driving to Kidepo

By Air/flight
Scheduled Flights to Kidepo are made available 3 days a week. Flights leave for Kidepo every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing 1230 arriving 1445. Departing from Kidepo on same days leaving at 1500 arriving Entebbe at 1630
