Lake Mburo centrally situated in Mbarara district. It is about 3 hours drive from Kampala. Lake Mburo is the best place in the country to see the Eland antelope, as well as zebra, topi, impala, and now the newly introduced Giraffes from Murchison Falls national Park, the park is also gifted with several acacia-associated birds. Lake Mburo is the best savanna Park in the country and is believed to be an extension of the Serengeti plains of Tanzania. The park covers an area of 260 sq km. Named after the famous Lake Mburo found inside the park harbors, there are several markedly different faunal species which cannot be easily found elsewhere in Uganda.

The beautiful Mburo landscape with grass hills and idyllic lakeshore provides a varied mosaic of habitat with gallery forest, rich acacia valleys, and seasonal and permanent swamp to support this wealth of wildlife. Within the boundary of park from where it takes its name is the lake itself Lake Mburo.

Mburo’s Top Tourist Attractions
A diversity of abundant Wildlife Zebras, common duikers, Impala, Bohor reedbuck, Buffaloes, and birds. Lake Mburo has been recorded as the only place in Uganda where you can see the gigantic eland antelope, Impala.

Several acacia-associated birds have been brought to records. Over 313 different bird species which include the rare Shoebill stork, White-winged Warblers, Black-billed Barbet, Crested Francolin, Brown Parrot, Red necked Spur, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Temminck’s Courser, common Quails, Greenwood Hoopoe, Blue-napped Mouse bird, Barefaced Go-away bird, African-grey Hornbill, Nubian Woodpecker, Trilling Cisticola, Lilac-breasted Roller, Coqui Francolin, Red necked spur fowl, Black Bellied Bustard, African-wattled Plover Rufous napped and Flappet larks, Rufous chested Swallow , Southern Red Bishop and Yellow-throated Long claw among others. The fringing swamps in the park also hide secretive papyrus specialists such as the red, black and yellow papyrus Gonolek.

Game Viewing
With over 68 different species of mammals Mburo provides an opportunity for game drive for wildlife viewing including the  Zebra, Impala, Buffalo, Topi, and Eland as herbivores not to leave out the rare slightly of Roan antelope and leopard, Hyenas and jackals as predictor.

Mburo is blessed with a Lake this provides an opportunity for one to take a Boat cruise inside the Lake. The lake is rich with a diversity of animal and plant species which can only be viewed clearly if you take a boat trip. The crocodiles, hippopotamuses and birds like Pelicans, Black crake, Heron, cormorant, fish eagle, if you lucky Shoebill Stork will be sighted.

Unlike other parks in Uganda, Lake Mburo has had an increase in accommodation establishments including Mihingo safari lodge, (High end Lodging) Mantana Tented Camp , Lake Mburo Safari Lodge, Acadia Cottage (Mid range lodging) and at Rwonyo campsite near the park headquarters, Eagles Nest Lake Mburo, Rwaboko Camp (Budget lodging)

Mburo’s Accessibility
Mburo National park is about 3 hours drive from Kampala-Mbarara road and this connects you to Sanga gate as it is only 12Km from Sanga trading  center
